CAIRO – 7 February 2018: Former England striker Gary Lineker revealed on Wednesday that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is the best player in history.

“Messi is from another world. He does four or five things in a game that I have never done in my career; he's the best of all time. Barcelona play with 13 players, because they have Messi," Lineker told Mundo Deportivo.

Lineker faced Diego Maradona in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals when Maradona scored twice, leading Argentina to eliminate Lineker and his teammates from the World Cup.

Lineker spoke about the comparison between Messi and Maradona, saying, “I never thought that I'd see someone better than Maradona; they say that Maradona won a World Cup and Messi hasn't, but Leo has four Champions League titles and Maradona has none.”

Lineker represented Barcelona between 1986 and 1989, and he believes that Barcelona are the best team in the world.

“Barcelona have been the best since Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta and, above all, Messi,” Lineker added.

Lineker revealed that he is still following Barcelona despite leaving the club 29 years ago. He said, “I love Barcelona; I see all of their games. I am a fan of Barcelona and my four children are too.”

Lineker scored 42 goals in 103 La Liga games with Barcelona, including a famous hat trick against Real Madrid in 1987.
