CAIRO – 3 February 2018: Liverpool’s former defender Jamie Carragher believes that the club’s former player Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in January, is overpriced.

“Coutinho isn't so good, and he's not worth 140 million Euros,” Carragher told press on Friday.

Coutinho left Liverpool in January to realize his childhood dream to wear Barcelona’s jersey. Liverpool rejected an offer from Barcelona last summer to sign the player but they could not stand against the player’s desire to join Barcelona in January.

Carragher believes that Coutinho should have stayed with Liverpool until the end of the season, “I don't agree with losing him in the middle of the season, I would've preferred him to earn a little less money, make sure the club had him in this part of the season, and then let him go in the summer.”

Carragher added, “Liverpool fans, including myself, felt good when Coutinho stayed in the summer, although we knew he was going to go to the end of the season.”

Since Coutinho’s departure, Liverpool suffered in the league and were eliminated from the FA Cup losing to West Bromwich Albion.

Carragher spoke about Liverpool’s winter market that witnessed the signing of the Dutch defender, Virgil Van Dijk, he said, “this period can't be classified as a success because we've lost our best player, if you lose your best player, there is no way you can disguise it as a positive window."

Carragher shared Liverpool’s dressing room with Coutinho for only six month as Coutinho joined Liverpool in January 2013 while Carragher retired from football at the end of 2013.
