CAIRO – 12 January 2018: Al-Ahly will face Al-Masry on Friday evening in the Egyptian Super Cup match at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the UAE. The game is scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. (Cairo Local Time).
Al-Ahly will play the game after they won the double last season, while Al-Masry will appear for the first time in the Super Cup after being the Egyptian Cup runner up last year.
Al-Ahly enters the game searching for the tenth title of the Egyptian Super Cup, which they lost in the last version against Zamalek, at the same stadium, on penalty shootout after the full time ended with a goalless draw.
Al-Masry will try to avenge themselves after the loss they suffered to Al-Ahly in the Cup’s final last season, and to don the title for the first time in their history.
Al-Ahly players hope to continue their amazing run after they defeated their local rivals, Zamalek, 3-0 on Monday in the Egyptian League.
Al-Ahly will miss their defender Ramy Rabia, as he picked up an injury during the game against Zamalek and left the game 30 minutes before the final whistle.
The UAE Football Federation announced on Wednesday that Emirati referee Ammar El Gonaibi will referee the Egyptian Super Cup game between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry on Friday. Ahmed El Rashdu and Gassem Abdallah will be the assistant referees in the game.
The match will be broadcast on the ON Sport channel with an audio commentary by Egyptians Medhat Shalabi and Belal Allam, and Abu Dhabi Sports Channel with the commentaries of Ali Saeed Al Kaabi and Essam Abdo.
