CAIRO – 1 January 2018: Manchester City ended 2017 with a draw against Crystal Palace, and is starting the New Year with a lot of hopes.

It is very possible that Manchester City enters the winter market to strengthen their squad, which let Pep Guardiola speak at a press conference about the addition of one of his desired players: Alexis Sánchez.

The main objective of City in the market would be to sign a central defender, but it does not exclude the arrival of Chilean striker, Sanchez, who was very close to signing for City last summer.

Guardiola was not clear if his team will go for Sanchez: "I do not know. He is a player of Arsenal and I think he will continue there," he said to the press.

In England, Arsenal fans are about to lose their biggest two stars, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who refused to renew their contracts with the club. Both players have many offers from clubs inside and outside England.

After being asked about other topics, the Catalan spoke again of Alexis and the possibility of including him in January. "We will have internal meetings with the board of directors and we will see what is best for us; but for now he is a player in Arsenal and I think that he will continue," he said.

Guardiola also spoke about the game that ended his record with City and the performance of his goalkeeper, Ederson.

"The second half was better than the first, then we had some problems and Ederson helped us to secure one point," he said.

Guardiola has additionally made mention of the injuries of Gabriel Jesus and De Bruyne, as well as the need for more protection by the referees.

"The Premier League is a very physical league and the referees must take care of the players. Protect them, that’s all I can say," he said.
