CAIRO – 28 December 2017: Oman defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 on Thursday night at the Gulf Cup. The game was played at Al Kuwait stadium.

Oman started the game searching for victory to secure their qualification to the semi-finals while Saudi Arabia just needed a draw to reach the semi-finals.

Both teams failed to create many chances to score in the first half and both teams’ strikers failed to break defenses.

Oman dominated the game in the second half. The score opened after 15 minutes through an own goal from Saudi Arabia defender Soltan El-Ghanam.

Said Al-Ruzaiqi doubled the score for Oman at the 77th minute through a stunning header after he received a cross from the right flank to make the score 2-0.

On the other game in the group, UAE ended their game against Kuwait with a goalless draw to qualify to the semi-finals alongside Oman.

Oman topped Group A with 6 points, 1 point ahead of the second-placed UAE. Saudi Arabia stayed in third place with 4 points while the host nation, Kuwait, ended up at the bottom of the group with 1 point.
