CAIRO – 13 December 2017: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that he plans to strengthen his defense during the next winter transfer window to avoid any shortages because his team is involved in more than one competition.

Injured defenders John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy are absent until next year, leaving Guardiola with limited options and therefore reducing the chance to win the league and cup titles or the Champions League.

"In that department we have too few players and with all these competitions coming up, we are in trouble, real trouble if this remains to be the case. But I cannot assure anything. We are going to see what will happen in January," Guardiola said during a news conference on Tuesday.

"Maybe, we will be looking at another central defender because of Vincent's problems; John Stones is four or five weeks out. And we miss an important player like Mendy," Guardiola added.

Manchester City will face Basel in round 16 of the Champions League.
