CAIRO – 5 November 2017: Al Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry expressed his anger with the referee’s performance after Al Ahly’s 1-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final.

“I’ve always said that referees play a big role in deciding African titles. You don’t win titles in Africa by creating a strong team, refereeing became an important factor in results,” Badry told ON Sports Channel after the game.

“A clear penalty was not called for us and the Wydad’s goal was offside. It became very obvious that referees control the results of the games, even in the final,” Badry added.

“I told my players that they did everything to win and that it was out of our hands. I congratulated Hussein Amotta because what the referee did has nothing to do with football and the Moroccan coach,” the 57-year-old coach concluded.

Badry failed to be the second Egyptian coach to win the Champions League twice. The only one who did so was Mahmoud El-Gohary, who won the champions League with Ahly in 1982 and Zamalek in 1993.
