CAIRO – 3 November 2017: Bayern Munich`s assistant coach, Willy Sagnol, was fired from the club one month after the dismissal of the Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, told the newspaper Bild on Thursday that Sagnol’s release was an unfortunate part of the business. “Willy has been dismissed along with Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff. Jupp Heynckes wanted to have his trusted people around him; he wanted well-rehearsed, automatic processes.
Naturally, it wasn’t an easy decision for us; I had even played together with Willy. But we also both know as former professional players: that’s how the job is.”

Sagnol, who before the season acted as Ancelotti’s link to the dressing room, was the interim coach of the team when the Italian was dismissed at the end of September for bad results.

Sagnol's interim position was short, as it only lasted one match (2-2 draw to Hertha Berlin), before Bayern officials decided to sign Jupp Heynckes, who in 2013 had guided the Bavarian team to a historic triple (Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup).
