CAIRO – 2 November 2017: Dani Alves has revealed that more than 10 years ago, when he was still defending Sevilla's shirt, he reached an agreement with Liverpool and was very close to joining Anfield.

Alves, 34, now plays for Paris Saint Germain (PSG), and he has assured in an interview with FourFourTwo Magazine that the agreement between Sevilla and Liverpool "was closed," although it was not finally concluded and ended up recalling at FC Barcelona.

"I had an agreement with Liverpool, but I do not know why at the last minute it did not materialize. The truth is that I do not know why it was not done. I did not take the negotiations; I had other people representing me then," said the Brazilian.

The English team, then led by Rafa Benítez, opted for not being able to take Alves, the Englishman Jermaine Pennant and the Spanish Álvaro Arbeloa.

"Something similar happened later in my career with Chelsea and Real Madrid, but in the end, everything went well with Barcelona and for me, since I was able to write a wonderful story in Camp Nou," said the Brazilian.

With Barcelona, he won six La Liga titles, three Champions League titles and four Copa del Rey titles, among many other trophies.

"I wanted to win titles that, if I had stayed at Sevilla, I would not have won. We stayed close, but I do not like to stay close. Six months before the market opened, they told me about Barça's interest and said I wanted to play for them," he revealed.

"It was a successful group, and I will always be grateful to Pep Guardiola, Txiki Begiristain (sports director) and Joan Laporta (president), since they gave me the opportunity to become a star," said Alves.
