CAIRO – 30 October 2017 : Al Ahly failed to achieve a good result against Wydad Casablanca in the first leg of the CAF Champions League final at Borg Al Arab stadium on Saturday, ending the game with a 1-1 draw.

Ahly players have to beat Wydad with any result or end the game with a draw higher than 1-1 to win the title. Ahly has previously won the African Champions League title twice after a poor showing at home.

In 2006 Ahly travelled to Tunisia with a 1-1 draw against CS Sfaxien in Egypt. Mohamed Aboutrika scored the first and Joetex Asamoah Frimpong scored the equalizer for Sfaxien minutes before the final whistle.

Ahly defeated Sfaxien in front of 80,000 Tunisian fans and won the title with a late goal by Mohamed Aboutrika.

In 2012 the same thing happened but with another Tunisian club, Esperance. Al Ahly ended the first leg at Borg Al Arab with a 1-1 draw. Walid Hichri opened the score for Esperence and Sayed Hamdy equalized for Ahly.

Ahly managed to win 2-1 again in Tunisia and at the same stadium. Mohamed Nagy, known as Geddo, scored the first goal before Walid Soliman doubled the result in the second half, while Yannick N'Djeng scored the only Esperance goal in the game.

Ahly fans hope that the team defeats Wydad in Morocco and return to Cairo with the title.
