CAIRO – 28 October 2017: Al Ahly faces Wydad Casablanca on Saturday night at the CAF Champions League first-leg final at Borg El Arab stadium. Al Ahly players hope to continue their amazing run in the competition and win the title.

Al Ahly started their participation in the competition against the South African club Bidvest Wits. Ahmed Hegazi’s header led Al Ahly to a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Cairo and the goalless draw in the second leg in South Africa secured Ahly’s qualification to the group stage.

The draw put Al Ahly in the tough group D, alongside Zambian’s Zanaco, Cameroonian’s Coton Sport and their opponent in the final, Wydad Casablanca.

Ahly started the group stage with a goalless draw against Zanaco in Alexandria before defeating Coton Sport 2-0 in Garoua, Cameroon.

Ahly won 2-0 over Wydad Casablanca in Alexandria before losing with the same result in Morocco.

Ahly secured a goalless draw in Zambia with Zanaco before defeating Coton Sport in Alexandria 3-1 to qualify to the quarter finals after placing second in the group behind Wydad.

Ahly faced the leaders of group C, Espérance de Tunis in the quarter finals.

Ahly failed to achieve a good result in the first leg in Alexandria as they ended the game with a 2-2 draw, but Al Ahly managed to defeat Espérance in Rades as they returned from a 1-0 loss in the first half to end the game 2-1.

Ahly met another Tunisian club, Etoile Du Sahel, in the semifinal. Al Ahly lost the first leg in Tunisia 2-1 but in Borg El Arab, Al Ahly humiliated Etoile with 6-2 victory to qualify to the final.

Al Ahly never met a Moroccan club in the Champions League final and Al Ahly fans hope to welcome Wydad players the same way they did Etoile Du Sahel.
