CAIRO – 26 October 2017: Bayern Munich suffered to secure their spot in the16th round of the German Cup on Wednesday; having had to win it in the penalty shootout (5-4) after a 1-1 draw against RB Leipzig, in a duel between the champion and the runner-up of the last Bundesliga.

The Bavarian could not take advantage of the numerical superiority for more than one hour, as Naby Keita, Leipzig`s midfielder, was sent off due to the second yellow card.

Emil Forsberg from RB Leipzig took the lead at the 68th minute from the penalty spot but Thiago Alcantara, Bayern’s midfielder, equalized in the 73rd minute to make it 1-1.

It is Bayern's fourth consecutive victory for Jupp Heynckes, the man who came as an emergency solution after the late dismissal of Italian Carlo Ancelotti.

In the rest of Wednesday's matches, surprisingly Cologne defeated Hertha Berlin 3-1 leading FC Cologne to come last in the Bundesliga. Cologne scored as many goals as in the first nine rounds of the Bundesliga.

Also, Hoffenheim, fifth in the Bundesliga, were eliminated by Werder Bremen (1-0).

No club from the Bundesliga was eliminated by a lower-level formation in this round.
