CAIRO - 28 August 2017: Colombian winger James Rodriguez will not be able to participate against Venezuela in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, according to a statement from Bayern Munich.

“The 26-year-old will not be available for selection in the first match, as an examination by FCB club medic Dr. Volker Braun revealed,” the statement said on Monday.

James Rodriguez is suffering a thigh injury, but he is expected to be available for the Brazil game on September 5.

“This has been agreed with the Colombia international. It remains to be seen if James will be available for the second match; the decision will be made after consultation with Dr. Volker Braun and the Colombian national team doctor."

Rodriguez moved to German team Bayern Munich this summer from Real Madrid.

Colombia is placing second in the South American World Cup qualifiers, only two points ahead of the fifth place, Argentina.

The first four teams will qualify directly to the World Cup, while the fifth place will play an inter-confederation playoff game against the Oceania champion.
