What a day for Lieke Martens

CAIRO - August 24 2017: It is not easy to represent Barcelona in an event and get all the attentions when Barcelona’s biggest name, Lionel Messi is there. However this is what Lieke Martens did on Thursday at UEFA Awards ceremony in Monaco.




Martens, the Barcelona Femeni player, was named UEFA Women’s player of the year on Thursday after the great season she had and great title she won.



Martens, 24 years old, led her country the Netherlands earlier this year to win the UEFA Women’s Championship for the first time, scoring three goals including one at the final. Lieke’s performance granted her the best player award.

Martens journey from Barcelona to Monaco on Thursday started with a flight alongside Lionel Messi from Barcelona to Monaco and the journey ended with a photo with the UEFA Men’s player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Martens joined Barcelona this summer from Sweden’s, FC Rosengård after winning the Sweden Cup and the Sweden Super Cup.
