24 August 2017: Spanish first division club Girona FC announced on Wednesday that the club has been bought by City Football Group and Girona Football Group.

“Girona FC, the City Football Group and the Girona Football Group want to announce through this statement the signing of an agreement whereby the Girona club is handed over to new owners,” the club’s statement said.

Girona FC is participating in the Spanish first divison for the first time, to become the third Catalan club in the Spanish League, following FC Barcelona and Espanyol.

Girona FC President Delfí Geli highlighted the benefits of the new deal, saying, “We are delighted to be able to confirm the new investment by the City Football Group and the Girona Football Group. They can provide us with knowledge and support of incalculable value to continue the hard work that has been so successful in recent years. We feel privileged to be part of this extended family.”

Manchester City faced Girona in a friendly game last week, and the English club also loaned five players to Girona FC to help the newly promoted club in their campaign in the Spanish League.

City Football Group added Girona to five other clubs they own all over the world. The group owns Manchester City in England, New York City FC in the U.S., Melbourne City FC in Australia, Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan and Club Atletico Torque in Uruguay.

It is good to mention that the owner of Girona Football Group is Manchester City manager Pep Guradiola’s brother Perre Guardiola.
