CAIRO - 2 August 2017: The Egyptian Football Association has a new strategy to bring fans back to stadiums in the new Egyptian League season. There will be massive penalties applied to law breakers.

“We will use our meetings with the clubs’ results in our suggestion; the Egyptian government really wants to see fans in the stadium again,” EFA Executive Manager Tharwat Sweilam said to reporters.

EFA board member Magdy Abdel Ghany spoke about penalties on the fans, saying, “ I discussed our suggestion with the Alexandria security director; we suggested that the fans attend only their home games. We will start with 5,000 fans and it will increase depending on its success.”

Abdel Ghany added, “ We will have many discussions with the security directors in the next few days.”

74 Ahly fans died in the Port Said disaster on February 2, 2012, and 20 Zamalek fans died on February 8, 2015 at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.
