Al Ahly lose to Tala’ea El Gaish as Thorup’s future remains uncertain

CAIRO, 10 March 2026: Al Ahly suffered a 2–1 defeat to Tala’ea El Gaish on Monday evening at the Military Academy Stadium in a postponed match from the 15th round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Following the loss, Al Ahly remains in third place with 40 points, while Tala’ea El Gaish moved up to 14th place with 22 points.

Al Ahly’s management has not yet made a final decision regarding the future of Danish head coach Jess Thorup after the defeat.

Dismissing Thorup at this stage would require the club to pay the remaining value of his contract, estimated at $3 million, which could lead the management to keep him until the end of the season.

If the club chooses to part ways with him after the season ends, it would only be required to pay the penalty clause in his contract, equivalent to three months of his salary.
