CAIRO - 11 February 2026: Egypt’s House of Representatives has approved President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s cabinet reshuffle, which included the appointment of former handball legend Gohar Nabil as the new Minister of Youth and Sports.
Nabil replaces Ashraf Sobhy, who had led the ministry over the past several years.
Born on January 31, 1973, Gohar Nabil holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Business Administration diploma from the American University. He brings a unique blend of sports excellence and executive experience to his new role.
Throughout his career, Nabil has served in senior positions across media, marketing, and sports administration, including chairman of POD Company under the Egyptian Media Group, sales and marketing director at Promo Media Advertising, and head of advertising production at Al-Ahram Institution.
In sports governance, he was a board member of the Egyptian Handball Federation, served on the Arab Handball Federation’s competitions committee, and led Al Ahly’s handball department.
As a player, Nabil enjoyed an illustrious career with Al Ahly and Egypt’s national team, representing the country in three Olympic Games and winning the Youth World Cup in 1993. He was named Egypt’s Best Handball Player multiple times and earned the First-Class Sports Medal in recognition of his achievements.
