Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan is considering making several changes to the starting lineup against Angola in order to rest some key players. Hassan is reportedly thinking of starting Ahmed Fattouh, Mohanad Lasheen, and Ibrahim Adel in place of Mohamed Hamdy, Marwan Attia, and Trézéguet. He is also considering deploying Emam Ashour at right-back from the start, while seriously weighing the option of resting Mohamed Salah.

The expected starting lineup includes Mohamed El-Shenawy in goal; Ahmed Fattouh, Rami Rabia, Yasser Ibrahim, and Emam Ashour in defense; Hamdy Fathy, Mohanad Lasheen, and Zizo in midfield; with Ibrahim Adel, Omar Marmoush, and Osama Faisal leading the attack.
Despite having already secured qualification and group supremacy, Hossam Hassan has urged his players to aim for victory and a perfect group-stage record, warning against complacency and stressing that any underperforming player could be excluded from his plans.
Hossam Hassan comments after the South Africa win following expressing his happiness with the result, praising the players’ effort and commitment.
He said: “I would like to thank the Egyptian, Moroccan, and Arab fans for their continuous support. I also thank the players for the great effort they put into the match.”
He added: “We managed to collect three very important points against a strong team like South Africa. I said from the beginning that South Africa are a powerful side with quality players.”
Hassan continued: “The true character of the Egyptian player appears in difficult moments, and the players lived up to the responsibility,” stressing his respect for refereeing decisions by saying, “I have full confidence in African referees and the tournament officials, and I do not interfere with referees’ decisions.”
He concluded: “My goal is to make the Egyptian people happy. We approach every match as if it were a cup final, especially as African football has become much stronger in recent years due to professionalism.”
In a related development, the Egyptian Football Association expressed its gratitude to Moroccan fans for their strong support of Egypt during the matches against Zimbabwe and South Africa in Agadir. In an official statement, the EFA praised the warm reception and backing, highlighting the deep fraternal and historical ties between the Egyptian and Moroccan peoples, as well as the spirit of sportsmanship and Arab unity within African stadiums. The association also wished Morocco continued success and progress in hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in a manner befitting its organizational capabilities and status.
