CAIRO, 2 December 2025: The Egyptian second national team will launch its Arab Cup journey this afternoon when it faces Kuwait in the opening round of Group C. The regional tournament began on Monday and continues until December 18 across Qatar’s stadiums.
Egypt’s opening fixture is scheduled for 4:30 PM Cairo time (5:30 PM Doha time), with coach Helmy Toulan leading a squad composed largely of emerging and alternative players, as the main national team prepares for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs were drawn into Group C, which includes Jordan, the UAE, and Kuwait—a competitive mix that promises closely contested matches.
Despite missing key first-team stars, the Egyptian delegation is eyeing a strong start. A victory today would not only strengthen Egypt’s bid for the Arab title but also send a message to the rest of the competing nations that the team is in Doha with full ambition to fight for the championship.
In a show of support, Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhy and EFA President Eng. Hany Abou Rida met with the players and technical staff on Monday.
During the extended session, they encouraged the squad and stressed that every player wearing Egypt’s colors has the ability and responsibility to represent the nation with pride.
Egypt will look to capitalize on this backing as it begins its quest for a deep run in the 16-team tournament.
According to technical staff indications, Mohamed Awad is set to start in goal.
In defense, Egypt is likely to rely on a solid backline consisting of Ahmed Hany, Mahmoud Hamdy "El-Wensh", Ragab Nabil, and Yehia Zakaria.
The midfield will feature a mix of defensive security and creative presence, with Akram Tawfik, Mohamed Elneny, and Amr El-Sulaya anchoring the center of the pitch, while Mohamed Magdy Afsha provides the attacking link-up.
Up front, the Pharaohs are expected to field Mostafa Saad “Messi” alongside Mohamed Sherif, forming a fast and mobile attacking duo.
