CAIRO, 12 August 2025: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially begun planning for the national team's participation in the 2025 Arab Cup, set to be hosted by Qatar from December 1 to 18.

Matches will take place at the same stadiums used during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the previous edition of the Arab Cup in 2021, which saw Algeria claim the title.

According to reports, Egypt is likely to face Tunisia twice in preparation for the tournament.

In a statement, the EFA said:

"The technical committee held its first meeting to discuss the proposed training program and preparation camps for the national team ahead of the Arab Cup in Qatar this December."

The committee is also planning a training camp in Ismailia, which will include two friendly matches against Tunisia on September 6 and 9.

Egypt will be led in the Arab Cup by coach Helmy Tolan, while Hossam Hassan remains in charge of the senior national team. Reports suggest that Hassan opted out of participating in the Arab Cup, fearing potential negative results could jeopardize his position ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which kicks off in mid-December.

As a result, Egypt will compete in the Arab Cup with a squad composed of non-international players, allowing the senior team to fully focus on AFCON preparations.

The 2025 Arab Cup will feature a record prize pool of $36.5 million, according to the tournament’s organizing committee.
