CAIRO – 20 July 2017: Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper, became selected as the new club captain on July 19 following Phillip Lahm’s retirement.

Karl-Heinze Rummenigge, Bayern Munich’s CEO announced to the press in Shanghai that Bayern’s number 1 (Neuer) will be the number 1 for Bayern next season, as reported from ESPN.

Bayern Munich’s veteran player Lahm posted on his Twitter account, "With @Manuel_Neuer @FCBayern has a strong new team captain. I wish you great success and many trophies, Manu."

Neuer who joined Bayern Munich on 2011 coming from Schalke FC, managed to win five consecutive German League titles. He also was an essential player in the German squad that won the 2014 World Cup that was held in Brazil.

Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer preffered not to travel with the team in the pre-season Asia tournament in order to sit and fully recover for the injury he picked at the end of last season.
