Al Ahly receive invitation from FIFA to participate in 2023 Club World Cup

CAIOR, 18 December 2022: Al Ahly received an official invitation to participate in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup to be held in Morocco next February.

The Red Eagles will participate in the competition as the Runners-up of the last season's CAF Champions League as Wydad will represent the host nation

 

Morocco won the honor of organizing the tournament, whose current edition was postponed to next February, due to the holding of the 2022 World Cup, which is currently being held in Qatar and will continue until December 18.
 
 
 
Al-Ahly club will participate in the Club World Cup during the period from 1 to 11 February next, according to the World Cup regulations, which prevents any two teams from one country to participate, and therefore Al-Ahly will participate as runner-up for the African champion, who will participate as host of the tournament.
 
Al-Ahly is participating in the Club World Cup for the third time in a row and the eighth in its history, after it participated in the last edition of the World Cup in the Emirates, and succeeded in winning the bronze medal for the third time in its history.
 
Al-Ahly used to participate in the Club World Cup, as it is considered the most African club and the second most participating team in the World Cup (7 times), after it participated in 7 occasions before in the years 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2020 and 2021.
 
The next edition will witness the participation of Real Madrid (European Champion) alongside Moroccan Wydad (African Champion), American Seattle Sounders (North American Champion), Brazilian Flamengo (South American Champion), and New Zealand’s Auckland City (Oceanian Champion), while the Asian Champion has not yet been determined.
