CAIRO-17 February 2022: Zamalek announced on Thursday that they have not considered Hossam El Badry, former Al Ahly and national team coach, for the coaching post at the White Castle.

Reports have linked El Badry, who led Al Ahly to 2012 CAF Champions League title, with coaching cross-city rivals Zamalek following a poor start for Zamalek in the league.

"We have much respect for El Badry but we are not interested in appointing him as the first team head coach." Mortada Mansour, Zamalek chairman, said.

Patrice Carteron, Zamalek's current head coach, does not guarantee his position after losing 8 points in the first 9 weeks of the Egyptian League and had a disappointing start in the CAF Champions League group stage with a draw at home to Angola's Petro Atletico.

El Badry was set to guide the Pharaohs in the last round of the World Cup qualifiers but he was sacked by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) before the Africa Cup of Nations due to the poor performance of the team in the qualifications.

Mahmoud El Gohary, Egypt's manager in the 1990 World Cup, is the only Egyptian manager to take charge of Al Ahly and Zamalek, leading both teams to win CAF Champions League titles.
