CAIRO-30 January 2022: The journey of Al Ahly duo, Ali Maaloul and Aliou Dieng, in AFCON came to an early end as Tunisia and Mali were knocked out of the competition.

Maaloul did not spend the best time in Cameroon after missing two matches due to testing positive for COVID-19. He returned to action in the second half of his team's 1-0 loss to Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals.

On the other hand, Dieng was on the bench during Mali's four matches in the competition, playing a total of 20 minutes across two matches.

He took part in the last 10 minutes of the game against Equatorial Guinea and converted his penalty but it was not enough as the Malians were sent home early after losing the penalty shootouts.

The two players does not have time to rest as they will join Al Ahly's delegation in the UAE as the champions of Africa are preparing to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup for the seventh time in history.
