CAIRO-30 October 2021: Zamalek boss Patrice Carteron stated that his team does not have a comfortable mission to defend their league title.

“It will not be an easy season for us. All the teams in the league have spent much money to strengthen their squads and we do not have that option. It is a difficult situation for us.” Carteron said.

The club is banned from signing new players for the next two transfer windows and they are short of players in several positions.

Careron added “You cannot ask players to fight and put everything on the pitch if they do not receive their wages. We have to solve our financial problems.”

Despite the ban, Zamalek were able to bring back some of the players who were on a loan last season like Mostafa Fathy and Omar El Said.

The White Knights will face El Gaish on Sunday in the league and they hope to get the three points ahead of the Cairo derby clash against Al Ahly on Friday.

Asked about his team’s chances against Al Ahly, he said” We are not the favorites to win the derby. They have added new players and spent much money in the summer but we are the defending champions and we will do our best to defend our title.”
