CAIRO – 9 July 2017: Wayne Rooney will rejoin his childhood team Everton after 13 years away from Goodison Park. Rooney signed a two year contract with the U.K. Premier League club on Sunday morning.

“I’m delighted to be back at Everton, I can’t wait to put the blue shirt on again,” Rooney said in a message to Everton fans through Everton official website.

Rooney played seven years for Everton, joining the club when he was 11 and leaving for Manchester United when he was 18.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is happy to strengthen his team with a big name like Rooney saying, “Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality, he knows how to win titles and I’m really happy he’s decided to come home.”

Koeman added, “He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don’t have any doubts about his qualities. It’s fantastic he’s here.”

Rooney spent 13 years at Manchester United, where he won five Premier League titles with the club.
