CAIRO-2 July 2021: Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane defended his goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy despite his mistake that cost the team victory against Pyramids on Thursday in the Egyptian Premier League.

El Shenawy failed to control the ball in the box in the dying moments of the game. The ball went to Eric Traore, Pyramids winger, who put the ball in the empty net, securing a 2-2 draw against Pyramids.

"I got Egypt’s number one goalkeeper. Tonight you blame El Shenawy? No, I stay with my goalkeeper." Mosimane said in the post-match press conference.

Al Ahly were held to a 2-2 draw against Pyramids at home on Thursday night, losing two important points in the race to the title.

Ibrahim Adel opened the score for the visitors after three minutes from half-time but Hussein El Shahat equalized quickly for Al Ahly.

Al Ahly missed the chance to take the lead after Ali Maaloul missed a penalty but the substitute Mahmoud Kahraba added the second goal for Al Ahly 15 minutes before the final whistle.

El Shenawy was at fault in the last minute of the game, giving the visitors the chance to equalize the score.

Mosimane added "I stay loyal to El Shenawy who saved us many times. El Shenawy is number one. I don’t want us to blame each other. Last week we were happy and tonight we are sad. We need a good spirit, honesty, trust and togetherness to move on."
