CAIRO-15 May 2021: Al Ahly captain Mohamed El Shenawy stated that the team knows the importance of the game against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Al Ahly will host the South African giants on Saturday night at Al Ahly Stadium and they will meet again a week later in South Africa.

“Tomorrow's game is the first half of the tie and we hope to achieve a positive result and have an advantage before playing the second half of the tie in South Africa.” Al Ahly’s captain said in the pre-match press conference according to the club’s official website.

The two teams will meet in the quarter-finals of the competition for the third straight season, with the South African side winning the tie in 2019 while Al Ahly won the tie last season.

El Shenawy added “It will be a difficult match. We faced them in the same stage during the previous two seasons. We want to beat Sundowns and secure a spot in the semi-finals.”

The Red Devils hold the record of the most titles in the competition, having won their 9th trophy last season after defeating arch-rivals Zamalek and they hope to win the title for the second season in a row for the third time in the club's history.

El Shenawy continued “We are keen to defend our title and our main goal is to win our 10th title in the competition.”
