CAIRO-22 April 2021: Al Ahly suffered a 2-1 loss to Smouha on Wednesday night in the Egyptian League and missed their chance to move to the top of the Egyptian League table.

The loss to Smouha is Al Ahly's first defeat in the Egyptian League since the appointment of Pitso Mosimane as Al Ahly's head coach.

When the South African manager came to Egypt in October 2020 to take charge of the Red Eagles, they had already secured the league title with four games remaining.

However, the coach finished the league season in a style with three wins and a draw. These four matches were the perfect chance for Mosimane to get to know his players ahead of the last stages of the CAF Champions League and the Egyptian Cup competitions.

Mosimane led Al Ahly to win the two titles and complete a historic treble for the Egyptian giants.

This season, Mosimane and his players had a good start to the league and they were unbeaten for 12 matches, having won 9 matches and the other three matches ended in a draw.

However, this fantastic run came to an end after losing to Smouha on Wednesday night.

Al Ahly still have a chance to move to the top of the table as they are second in the league table with 30 points, three points behind the leaders Zamalek who have played two games more.
