CAIRO – 14 June 2017: Two years ago Molly Daley was diagnosed with dementia. In an attempt to raise awareness her son Joey began a youtube channel in which he documents his mother’s declining condition and how it has affected their lives.

Joe decided to create a weekly video series allowing everyone to watch his and his mother’s battle against Dementia. His main intention was to inspire, raise awareness and educate people on the effects of Dementia of both sides (family and the one with the disease.)

Molly was diagnosed with Dementia at the age of 65. She is currently living in a nursing home, and she can no longer do anything for herself. She cannot take a bath or take her own medicine.

What made the channel a total hit on YouTube was episode 6 reached around 2 million viewers in 4 months and the subscribers to Joe’s channel is around 69,000.

Episode 6 became popular because Joe asked his mother, Molly, if she knows anything about her family. She replied that she does not remember.

Other than that Molly told her son that she was unable to remember her husband Joe’s father. Joe’s parents divorced when he was only 1 year old.

In the same episode Molly could not recognize her son. In one instance she thought Joe was a friend that she met in school. Joe was forced to reintroduce himself as her son.

Joe demonstrated in his videos, the ups and downs of having a mother diagnosed with dementia. He showed how it’s economical, social, and sometimes physical effects take a toll on the patients and those around them.

Dementia is the general term for a mental disease in a decline in mental ability, and severe interference
