Cairo - 2 September 2019: JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts welcomed the passionate Egyptian ballerina, Engy El Shazly, to her home city to host an immersive barre class in collaboration with the artists who established the Ballerinas of Cairo project at the JW Marriott Hotel, Cairo. The brand has worked with the ballerina to launch a series of barre workout videos. The videos shot against the backdrop of three JW Marriott Hotels in Middle East and Africa, reinforce the brand’s commitment to well-being by providing guests with the tools and techniques to maintain a healthy lifestyle no matter where their travels take them.

JW Marriott launched Behind the Barre globally in 2017, providing guests with virtual workout sessions inspired by the grace, poise and discipline of the art of ballet. Developed in partnership with America’s premier ballet company, The Joffrey Ballet, Behind the Barre embodies the tailored holistic experience of the JW Treatment, which centers on the brand’s philosophy that true luxury is created by people who love and are passionate about what they do.

Ballerinas of Cairo is a social media platform that showcases the contrast of grace and art of ballet against the backdrop of the tough – yet beautiful – streets of Cairo. Founded by two photographers, this project of passion tells a unique story of the city through the lens of committed, disciplined, and graceful ballerinas.

“This collaboration brings together like-minded brands and celebrates our shared passion for well-being and exceptional training, highlighting the brand’s commitment to offer guests thoughtful approaches to mindfulness. The benefits of ballet go far beyond the barre and promote discipline and self-confidence enhancing any fitness plan. The elegance, poise and discipline exemplified by ballet and Engy’s passion and dedication to this incredibly graceful dance form, is in line with the brand’s philosophy of JW Treatment, an endeavor to deliver a holistic, refined and elevated guest experience,” said Candice D’Cruz, Vice President Luxury Brands, Marriott International Middle East & Africa.

Engy El Shazly, has risen to global attention as an inspiring professional ballerina, and the first to wear a hijab. The videos shot at JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, JW Marriott Hotel Cairo and JW Marriott Hotel Kuwait City are designed to inspire guests to maintain a healthy lifestyle, incorporating cardio and strength training, together with the grace and poise of a delicate dance form. Joining Engy for the session were the artists who established the Ballerinas of Cairo project. Combining the disciplines of photography, ballet and architecture, the project seeks to establish ballet as an artistic expression of elegance and liberation against the backdrop of Cairo city. The inspiring afternoon brought together enthusiasts passionate about this art form and gave the guests a first-hand experience into the beauty and benefits of rhythm, form and movement.
