Cairo, Egypt 22 April 2019: Egypt Retail Summit (ERS 2019), the first retail mega event of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East, was held in April under the auspices of Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and Internal Trade Development Authority (ITDA).

The Summitwas joined by leading global retail professionals and experts from all over the world; as it brought together more than 750 attendees, and over 200 CEOs of major companies. The event was also attended by government officials including Dr. Ibrahim Ashmawy, First Assistant Minister of Supply for Investment and Head of the Internal Trade Development Authority, Dr. Mohsen Adel, CEO of GAFI Investment Authority, Ahmed El-Wakeel, Head of Chamber of Commerce, HossamFarid, consultant to the Minister of Trade and Industry for SMEs, and HE. Ahmed Salem, Member Board of Directors - Chamber of Commerce & Industry – UAE.

ERS 2019 presented an opportunity for retailers to share their expertise and discuss the challenges facing the retail sector and for the governmental and private sectors to discuss potential collaboration opportunities, with more than 45 speakers from the world's retail industry who contributed to an open dialogue between business owners and experts on how to achieve the greatest returns towards fair competition in markets and keeping abreast of the evolving retail industry sector, including Timothy Earnest, CEO of Al-Futtaim Malls.

ERS 2019 included 6 discussion panels and 5 international keynote speeches; deliberating on several key topics on how to build a winning retail model in New Urban cities, the future of retail in Egypt: Challenges Vs. Opportunities,women’s role in the fashion industry andunlocking their potential in the Retail Sector in the MENA region, the role of retail brands and creating a distinct purchasing power, the latest retail strategiesand e-business applications, and the optimal model combining traditional trading methods and other e-commerce methods.

It provides an opportunity for retailers from the Egyptian public and private sectors to share their expertise and exchange their insights on strategies for a radical developmentthe retail industry in Egypt,” stated Dr. Ibrahim Ashmawy, First Assistant Minister of Supply for Investment and Head of the Internal Trade Development Authority.

Ashmawy added that this event shares the same objectives as the Egyptian government’s Egypt vision for 2030, which seeks to develop the Egyptian economy and achieve sustainable growth through enhancing the retail industry and internal trade affairs. He reiterated that ERS is a real opportunity to transform the retail sector into a major power leading the economic renaissance.

“ERS 2019 is a point of change in the Egyptian retail industry. The summit comes in a stage of continuous growth in the Egyptian economy. Last year statistics by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics show that the retail sector is the most attractive sector for employers in the first half of 2018, which highlights the Egyptian retail market’s growth potential,” stated Marwan Abdelrazik, CEO and Founder of BiznEx.
The ERS event included an award ceremony where top 20 Egyptian retail companies were awarded for their contribution to the development of the retail sector and their influential impact on the economic and investment scene.
