CAIRO – 14 November 2017: “In life you need to take a risk.” – Stefano Gabbana

One-half of the creative founders of Dolce & Gabbana, Stefano Gabbana started to grace the world with his beautiful wearable works of art in 1980 when he first met Domenico Dolce. The pair then launched Dolce & Gabbana (D&G). In 1985, their debut was at Milano Collezioni’s Nuovi Talenti.

Always looking for the best way to capture the essence of women, their first show was titled “Real Women”, and their first store opened its doors in 1987. D&G was quick to become fashion enthusiasts’ favorites, as the two founders would soon travel the globe and showcase their work at fashion shows around the world, such as that of Tokyo in 1989 and that of New York in 1990.

That same year saw the arrival of their first menswear collection, with the opening of the first D&G showroom in New York. They also won the first International Woolmark Prize. In 1992, the brand released its first fragrance, which ended up winning the Best Fragrance of the Year Award in 1993.

They became the celebrity go-to brand when Madonna commissioned them to create her costumes for the “Girlie Show” world tour. By 2003, they were bestsellers, beating fashion houses like Armani, Gucci, Prada and even Versace.

In 25 years, D&G opened 113 stores and 21 factories and employed more than 3,500 people; earning €1 billion per year.Gabbana is the 27th richest man in Italy, according to Forbes magazine. He has a net worth of $1.51 billion. Today, D&G is one of the world’s most influential fashion brands in the world; it has shaped today’s culture by being the first to introduce the use of animal print.

Another quote for the road:

“You have to work very hard behind the scenes, to make a message clear enough for a lot of people to understand.”- Stefano Gabbana
