Egyptian adventurer Omar Samra is launching Cairo's biggest kids marathon that will follow a 4k route and end with a Cairokee concert, saying the run aims to build children's character and get them to be healthier and happier.

Muricata, Samra’s new arm for youth education, is launching the Kidathon marathon to be held on May 6th in Zamalek's El Sawy Cultural Wheel. Sponsored by real estate company Inertia, Kidathon is expected to include 300 children from 6-14 years old in what's slated to become an annual event.

“At Muricata – which is part of the mother company Wild Guanabana - we focus on the physical and mental well-being of the children," Samra says. "We want to motivate families to invest in and support the forthcoming adventurers by participating in such activities, so they build character, learn how to become self-independent; and most importantly become healthier and happier.”

Kidathon will award prizes to 18 winners. There will also be a day of activities including family yoga classes, arts and crafts, adventure games and activities and an exclusive Cairokee concert at the end of the day.

Kidathon will follow the Sawy Cultural Wheel loop route as children will compete in three categories. Children from 6-8 years old will be accompanied by their parents and will run 2 kilometers; children from 9-11 years old will also run 2 kilometers; while children 12-14 years old will run 4 kilometers.

See the marathon's Facebook page for more information. Children interested in participating will donate a toy through Marwa Fayed’s Toy Run NGO, as toys will be donated to Abu El Reesh Hospital. All children will receive certificates for participating, Kidathon t-shirts, medals and invitations to the Cairokee concert.
