CAIRO – 30 August 2017: Despite the recent attack in Hurghada, hotels bookings for the coming winter season begin to recover, and there is a steady increase in comparison to the previous year, according to the German- led newspaper, Frankfurt Runschau.

Earlier in July, a knife-wielding man broke into a beach of the Red Sea town Hurghada and stabbed two female German holiday tourist and injured others.


Frankfurt Runschau said that Hurghada is a favorable tourist spot for the Germans during the holidays, and their vacationing trips have increased, according to German travel organizers.

There are a number of tourist companies, including TUI and Thomas cook, that have increased their direct flights to Egypt’s beaches and resorts particularly during the winter, the German website said. They elaborated that Thomas Cook has doubles flights to Egypt for the winter, while TUI has increased flights to Hurghada by 70 percent, according to the tourism website FVW.

Thomas Cook spokesperson said that there has been no booking cancellations recorded, according to Frankfurt Runschau, and that the demand was slightly affected by the Hurghada knife attack but quickly recovered shortly afterwards.

FVW added that Thomas Cook is planning to open six hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh and TUI is reopening its Night Club named “Magic Life Club” in the same city.
In June, the number of German tourists registered in Hurghada reached 80,000, Egyptian officials added.

Hurghada International Airport received flights from Germany carrying 1,600 tourists on July 10, according to an official source at the airport.
