CAIRO – 10 August 2017: Fashion designer Betsey Johnson was born on August 10, 1942.
She started her fashion career began after she graduated from Syracuse University in New York in 1967. Johnson had earned a guest editor position at the art department of Mademoiselle magazine after winning their Guest Editor Contest.
In 1965, she started working as designer at Paraphernalia where she developed her fun, hippie style and character.
In 1970, she left Paraphernalia a clothing in New York, to work as a creative director at Alley Cat (youthful sportswear brand). Finally in 1978, she formed her own company Betsey Johnson, Inc.
Fun fact: What inspired her to love costumes was dance class, plus she was a cheerleader at her high school and college.
