It’s no secret that there’s an invisible critic in each one of us, and if someone says otherwise, they’re definitely lying. We all have that inner voice that nitpicks at everything—from our biggest mistakes to the tiniest slip-ups. But what happens when that voice gets too loud? When it starts drowning out the positive affirmations we try so hard to hold onto? That’s when it crosses the line from normal self-reflection to something that can seriously affect our confidence and mental well-being, and that’s when we need to do something about it.
Overcoming the negative self-talk isn’t entirely about silencing that voice completely but it’s about learning how to manage it, challenge it, and reframe the narrative in a way that helps you and here is how:

Spot Your Inner Critic.
First, you have to listen to your inner dialogue and filter out those negative comments whenever you spot them being repeated in your head, try to recognise when these thoughts increase. Awareness is the very first step towards a change.

Separate the Thoughts From Reality
Our thoughts aren’t entirely valid and real all the time. Especially when we are feeling down we tend to exaggerate the negative even more. Your thoughts and how you feel about yourself at that point are just influenced by your bad mood and overthinking.

Repeat Positive Affirmations
One way to stop negative self-talk is by replacing the bad with the good. Repeat positive affirmations and say them out loud. Replace the “I’m not good enough” with “I’m worthy just as I am” or “I deserve love and kindness.” These affirmations, when repeated daily, can help rewire your thoughts.

Remember Your Accomplishments
Whenever you feel your negative inner dialogue is taking over your head, grab a journal and write all the achievements that you did. Seeing your progress on paper is a powerful reminder that you are capable, resilient, and stronger than you think.
