Motor sports fans came out to Obour City’s Jeroland track on April 11 for Time Attack, a competition pitting personal vehicles against the clock. Eighty contestants participated, each going two rounds of time trials through a winding course with hairpin turns. The fastest cars won trophies and bragging rights for their driver. Contestants compete in categories by engine size, and in this race, the age or model of a car doesn’t matter, only the skill of the driver and condition of the car. In fact, the older cars often kept pace with the newer vehicles. Meanwhile, as the drivers strutted their stuff, International Business Associates Group representatives surprised audience members with giveaways. At the winner’s podium, prizes for the fastest cars were awarded by Yasser Salhin from IBAG-Western Union, and Ahmed Metwally from the Egyptian Union. The event was organized and presented by Samy El Qellawi, who announced that the next local Time Attack competition would be held at Cairo Stadium. Sponsors included IBAG-Western Union and Mehwar Channel’s popular TV show Doos Benzene. The event was held to promote tourism and assure the world Egypt remains stable despite international perceptions. et   DSC_8075Time Attack Overall Winners 1st place: Tamer Beshat with a Peugeot 207 RC car (1:00:47). 2nd place: Marawan El Kilani with a Hyundai Elantra 2.0 3rd place: Mohammed El Shahawy Winners by Category 1300cc engines: 1-Yasser El Gohary, 2-Mario, 3-Mohammed Abdel Ghaffar. 1600cc: 1-Ezzat Sabry, 2-Islam Abu EL Azm, 3-Mahmoud Salama 2000cc:1-Marawan El Kilani, 2-Nour Peugeot, 3-Mahmoud Gawish 2000+ cc: 1-Tamer Beshat, 2-Mohammed El Shahawy, 3- Mahmoud Samir 2000 cc 4X4: 1-Martinio Magdy, 2-Omar Sakr, 3-Mostafa Mahmoud 2800 cc: 1-Omar Nasser, 2-Ahmed Hazem, 3-Mohammed Akram. 3500+cc: 1-Hesham El Khatib, 2-Ayadi El Zayyat, 3-Mohammed Beta 3500+cc 4X4: 1-Sameh Abu El Fat, 2-Mahmoud Tawfiq, 3-Mohsen Taher Special honors: Mariam Mahmoud, the only female competitor, whose Mazda cleared the track in 1 minute 15 seconds.
