In a historic week, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir witnessed the opening of Egypt's most significant fashion event yet. The inaugural and official Egypt Fashion Week (EFW) kicked off on the 12th of May with a remarkable showcase attended by VIP guests in the Fashion industry from Egypt and countries all over the globe, under the auspices of Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, Agricultural, and Tourism.
With the theme "Past, Present & Future," the event encompasses three crucial timelines. The past, inspires our designers to draw from the rich cultural heritage and materials that Egyptians have utilized for millennia. The present, which keeps us attuned to global developments and contemporary trends. And the future, which guides us towards aspirations to elevate Egypt Fashion Week to the same level as other leading international fashion events in the years to come.
The Second and third days of the event were hosted at the Egyptian Agriculture Museum, with the participation of more than 100 Egyptian designers and fashion industry leaders, which aim to showcase Egypt’s pool of creative talents and the local cotton textile industry, as well as to position Egypt’s fashion industry and designers on the international fashion map through the quality of the high-insights that speakers and designers present on various topics related to their areas of expertise.
“The development of EFW has been a four-year journey as it represents more than just a fashion show. The time and effort invested in this event were crucial to ensure that it meets the same high standards as other established global fashion weeks,” said Paul Antaki, Co-founder of the Egyptian Fashion Week and Design Council. “The event has garnered the support of distinguished speakers, significant worldwide media partners, and a large audience, which will undoubtedly draw the spotlight towards Egyptian fashion and position it on the world map. Egypt Fashion Week on its first official edition wouldn’t have reached this success without co-production company Creative Headz and official communication partner Hype who documented EFW’s special moments through their eyes.”
Commenting on the launch of this important event, Sasha El Jurdi, Head of Content Programming at TikTok for the Middle East and North Africa, said, “TikTok’s participation in Egypt Fashion Week aims to support the fashion industry, which attracts the attention of many content creators and followers. In addition to highlighting the local designers to support them to share their ideas”, she also added that TikTok has always been a supportive platform for fashion and its fans of all ages and opinions, as the platform provides distinguished ideas through creative content creators and advices related to fashion, so we launched #TikTokFashion, which has garnered 46 billion Views globally and #WhatToWear, which has more than 4.9 billion views globally, proves the followers’ interest of in this type of content.”
