What it seems like is that the general vibes are not really positive or happy vibes. This common state of demotivation and low spirit comes as no surprise given the tough times the world is going through. Humans had to endure so much in the last couple of years from pandemic lockdown and economic challenges to the threats of war and horrors of murder and suicide. And if you are still able to protect your sanity and stay positive amidst all this, then you need to know you are a hero and a really strong person emotionally. Staying happy in distressing surroundings is not an easy job and you might ask yourself if it is ever possible or begin to wonder whether happiness is a choice.

The answer is yes, but how so?

When you can’t change what’s around, change within.
We may not have full control over everything happening around us, but what we can control is our perception of events. Well, yes, approaching tough circumstances with a hopeful mindset will not change the circumstances themselves, but it will help make them a bit easier on us. And always remember that the universe is not conspiring against you, you are not alone, we all have our hard times, but the choice is always ours in how to manage our surroundings. Two people might be undergoing the exact same test but both react differently, why? It is the mindset, acceptance, and the will to get up and move on chasing happiness again

Change your outlook on life and your inner dialogue.
Instead of saying ‘why is this happening to me?’ change the narrative into ‘how is this happening for me?’ Every obstacle or a tough test we go through is trying to teach us something or to deliver a certain message, and when you learn that lesson you will be ready to move on. We totally understand that having a positive outlook on life the entire time is not realistic and also not healthy – we are humans at the end of the day and our emotions are a mix between positives and negatives – but try to make the dominant vibes hopeful and optimistic.

Figure out what needs to be changed.
If you are constantly unhappy, take time to sit with yourself and reflect and ask yourself ‘What needs to be changed?’ Maybe a certain routine needs to be readjusted, maybe you need to find a new purpose in life, maybe you need to discover new things in life so you learn what truly makes you happy. But sitting around doing nothing about how you feel will take you nowhere
We don’t want this article to sound like some toxic positivity or unrealistic chants from self-help books, but pursue happiness every day in your life, have your down moments of course, but don’t dwell there. Open up your heart for life, explore, experience, and wander. Learn more about yourself, and find new passions. Doing something is better than doing nothing and whining. And if all else fails, pour your heart out to a therapist, they will take you to the beginning of the road of self-discovery and eventually happiness.
