Now, you probably have heard these several times before; that you have to remove your makeup before sleeping, drink enough water, and choose the right products. So, not to bore you with repetition over and over again, let’s get a bit beyond the basics. We all dream of having flawless skin, but it takes a lot more than buying good products to reach that goal. If you religiously follow a skincare routine but do not notice any progress, maybe you are unconsciously doing one of the below mistakes.

Mistake no.1: Not layering your products correctly

Let’s say you apply the serum after the moisturizer, in this case, rest assured you’ve thrown your serum down the drain. When applying skin products, start by thinner to thickest formula. If you start by thick formulas, lighter products won’t penetrate to your skin, hence no benefit.

Mistake no.2: Using the same moisturizing for day and night

Moisturizing every day, day and night is a great step. But it is also important to know that you cannot use the same moisturizers for daytime and nighttime. Day moisturizers contain SPF to protect you from harmful sunrays, while the ingredients in night moisturizers do their job by restoring, regenerating and repairing your skin cells while you’re asleep.

Mistake no.3: Wearing sunscreen only at the beach

Wearing sunscreen is not only for beach time and summer. You should wear sunscreen all year long, anytime, anywhere you are exposed to sunrays. Also, don’t rely on makeup containing SPF alone, you still need to wear sunscreen before applying your makeup.

Mistake no.4: Depending on face wipes alone to remove your makeup

Yes they’re handy and they’ll wipe off your make up, but face wipes won’t provide deep cleansing to your pores and can strip your skin’s natural oils. Make sure you thoroughly wash your face with a cleanser that suits your complexion to prevent your pores from being clogged with makeup residues or dirt.

Mistake no.5: Constantly touching your face

Some people are in the habit of constantly touching their face doing it subconsciously, but this habit is really harmful for the skin.  Just think of how many surfaces your hands touch throughout the day and the amount of germs and bacteria clinging to it. Now imaging having all that straight onto your face.

Mistake no.6: Not cleaning your brushes

Beside old makeup residues, makeup brushes hold onto a lot of other things like dead skin cells and dust. Using unclean makeup brushes will not only clog your pores, but can also skin infection. Make sure you wash your brushes and makeup tools every week.

Mistake no.7: Not cleaning your phone

Pretty much like makeup brushes, phones catch tons of bacteria throughout the day. Now putting your phone straight to your face will transfer all that bacteria to your skin which can cause infections and acne. Wipe off the screen of your phone with alcohol or with wipes to make sure it is constantly clean.
