CAIRO - 2 July 2017: The National Festival of Egyptian Theater will carry out its 10th edition that will run between July 13-27.

The festival has previously opened doors in May 16 to June 30 for applicants to participate in the Official Festival Competition, the Selected Exhibitions Department Contest, and the Critic Article Competition, according to a statement released by the Culture Development Fund.

Applicants competing in the Official Festival Contest are required to have participated in at least one theater performance previously and that have staged a theater for one week, or participated in a competition held before by the High Committee of Festivals.

Those applying for the Selected Exhibitions Department Contest are required to have previously won an award for best theater performance in a theater competition, and have later been nominated to present Egypt in other theatrical festivals.

The Critic Article Competition requires applicants present at least one article that has been published during the period between June 1, 2016 and May 15, 2017 in newspapers. The competition is open for both Egyptian and Arab critics.

Egyptian theater is originated from religious values that have been mentioned 2000 years B.C, according to Culture Development Fund statement. The performances revolved around god Osiris and his affiliates, while the Greek Theater performances involved people wearing masks, dancing and singing together.
