Egypt’s Amr Diab tops Forbes Middle East celebrities list, Adel Emam only actor in top 10 list

CAIRO - 5 September 2020: Forbes Middle East announced its Top 100 Arab Celebrities for 2020.

Forbes criteria for choosing relied on the popularity and influence the Middle Eastern celebrities, as well as the scope of their reach on the different means of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

 

Egyptian megastar Amr Diab tops Middle East celebrities list, while iconic Egyptian actor Adel Emam is the only actor in the top 10 list.

 

The top ten in the list are:

3-Elissa

4-Kathem el Saher

5- Nagwa Karam

6-Adel Emam

7- Assala

8- Ahlam

9-Rageb Alama

10-George Wassouf

 

Born in 1961 in Port Said, Diab has risen to fame over the past two decades in the Arab world and continues to break sale records, according to a BBC report and his official Facebook page. 

His most famous album, “Nour el-Ain” (Our Eyes Beam), brought him international recognition and earned him the title of “The Father of Mediterranean Music” for his style of blending Egyptian and western rhythms. 

The mega star, who founded the record company Mediterranean Music, had his songs translated into seven different languages.
Diab received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Big Apple Music Awards in 2009. At the 2014 World Music Awards, Diab was also awarded Best Egyptian Artist, Best Male Arab Artist and World Best Arab Male Artist Voted Online. 

Diab’s first album, “Ya Tareeq” (The Path), was released in 1983. His album “Meaddy El-Nas” (Surpassing People) was released in July 2017, following a major viral promotion campaign across Cairo sponsored by Egypt Linx. 

Diab has established himself as an acclaimed recording artist in most Mediterranean countries. According to a research by Michael Frishkopf, he has created his style termed as "Mediterranean Music", a blend of Western and Egyptian rhythms.
The journey of Amr Diab’s music has been one of growing musical excellence since the beginning. His albums have topped the international charts and many of his songs were translated into several languages.
Five of his albums topped Billboard’s global top ten hits, in addition to winning many international awards during his career;  Amr Diab is the first Arab singer to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, where he was recorded as the first Arab singer to receive the largest number of international music awards for most album sales in the Middle East.

 

In 2014, Amr Diab received the World Music Awards, and won three awards, as Best Egyptian Artist, Best Male Arab Artist, and Best-selling Arab Album (El Leila) being the only Arab singer who has achieved this, he was also voted World’s Best Arab Male Artist.

 

Diab was the most listened to singer on Anghami in 2018; his album “Kol Hayati” (All My Life) was listened to a record number of times. Diab adopted a new marketing strategy to promote his albums where he releases a new song almost every week. 

Diab collaborated with several poets, composers and distributers in his recent albums, including Tarek Madkour, Ayman Bahgat Amar, Nader Hamdy, Amr Mostafa and Ahmed el-Malky, Tamer Hussein among others. 

He is a Guinness world record holder, best selling middle eastern artist, 7 times winner of world music awards, 5 platinum record awards and 6 African music awards.

Diab song "Amaken el-Sahar” toped YouTube trends. 

The song was released on August 24 on his official “YouTube” channel.

"Amaken el-Sahar” achieved huge success, amassing millions views.

The newly released song featured Dina el-Sherbiny for the first time as well some of Diab’s friends.

The song claimed number one on Egypt’s YouTube trending list within a day from its release.

“Amakan el-Sahar” which was shot in North Coast is written by Tamer Hussein, composed by Aziz El-Shafei, distributed by Tarek Madkour, and directed by Ahmed el-Naggar.

"Amakan El Sahar” will be screened in cinemas across the country for the audiences to watch.

Diab  performed his first ever online concert this summer. 

It is worth mentionig that Netflix announced a new project with the international megastar, where will star in a new Arabic original series. 

The new deal marks the return of the best-selling artist, also known as “Al- Hadaba”, to drama 27 years after he played the role of "Adham" in the movie "Dehk Wele’b Wegad Wehob" opposite the late Omar el-Sherif.

Amr Diab is the winner of 7 World Music Awards and 6 African Music Awards.

Diab’s song "Ya Baldna ya Helwa" trended number 1 on Anghami.

“Ya Baladna Ya Helwa” became #1 trending on YouTube after its release as it garnered more than half a million views within hours of its release.

The Egyptian megastar promoted in the song to a number of Egyptian touristic attractions, shedding light on Egypt’s spirit, civilization, and historical places.

"Ya Baldna Ya Helwa" is written by Tamer Hussein, and composed by Aziz al-Shafie.

In 2016, Diab became the first Egyptian and Arab artist to break a Guinness World Record for the number of World Music Awards he achieved. 

It is worth mentioning that Diab performed live in Jeddah at King Abdullah Sports City on June 10 and performed a massive concert recently at Riyadh season. 

Also, Diab, famed British singer James Arthurand famed Turkish record producer Mahmut Oran performed in the grand ceremony of the American University in Cairo's centennial anniversary.
