CAIRO - 10 May 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities launched on May 10 a new video on the history of cooking in Egypt. Today's dish is the oldest written recipe known in Egypt: the lentils dish.

The recipe of the lentils dish was written by an ancient Egyptian on a piece of papyrus in the third century AD.

The ancient Egyptians had eaten lentils since prehistoric times, around 4000 BC. This recipe illustrates the long history of the Egyptian cuisine, however, it did not remain constant all the time; where the lentils are prepared in different ways depending on the time period.
