'Weldi' to screen in celebration of AUC’s 100th anniversary

CAIRO - 23 April 2019: The Tunisian film “Weldi” (Dear son) directed by Mohamed Ben Attia will screen at Tahrir Cultural Center with Arabic and English subtitles on April 28 at 7 p.m.

The screening will be hosted by the American University in Cairo.

The Tahrir Cultural Center was inaugurated in February 2019 during the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the American University in Cairo. The center hosts several artistic activities, including concerts, theater performances, art exhibitions and film screenings.

The film revolves around a Tunisian middle class couple with high hopes for the future of their only son, but they discover he's left to join ISIS in Syria.

The film has recently screened at the third edition of the Cairo Film Festival and before that in the Arab Film Festival in Rotterdam.

It was selected to screen in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

The film cast includes Mohamed Dhrif as Riad, Mouna Mejri as Nazli, Imen Cherif as Sameh and Zakaria Ben Ayyed as Sami.
