CAIRO – 6 June 2017: Many Ramadan series’ script writers this year were inspired by real stories and experiences they have lived, conveying these stories to the soap operas we are watching currently.

Baher Dweidar, the script writer of Kalabash, got the idea for the series from the story of the late Egyptian youth Khalid Saeed who was killed by police officers as a result of being severely tortured. In addition to many other cases of torturing citizens to death, fabrication of charges and the escape of prisoners from police departments. Dweidar employed many such incidents into the series.

Kalabash revolves around a police officer named Selim , played by the Egyptian star Amir Karara. Selim chases a terrorist along with his colleague and friend Hesham. Hesham is shot dead by the terrorist and Selim as a result is enraged and decides to avenge his friend by killing the terrorist in vilation of his orders as the terrorist held important information.

Selim was transferred to another department as a punishment. One day at night Selim noticed a youth in his car whom he suspected to was a drug addict. Selim asked the youth to get out of his car to inspect it, but the youth refused claiming that the car owner is a parliamentary member so it is forbidden to inspect it, then he ran away trying to escape from Selim. He is eventually caught by Selim, who beats the youth to death. Selim finds himself at the center of a court battle for the murder.
Kalabash is directed by Peter Mimi.
