CAIRO - 6 June 2017: The Warner Bros. and DC Comics Wonder Woman film exceeded all expectations this weekend as it delivered the largest opening weekend for a female-directed film with $100 million (1.8 billion EGP) in the domestic box office.

The Patty Jenkins film has just surpassed 50 Shades of Grey, which grossed $93 million (1.6 billion EGP) on 2015 Valentine’s Day, and considered to be the largest opening weekend for a female director back then.

Wonder Woman’s opening record is now considered the third biggest opening for a DC Comics film behind the Dark Knight Rises, delivering $161 million (2.8 million EGP) and Suicide Squad, delivering approximately $134 million (2.4 billion EGP).

The movie plot revolves around Princess Diana who discovers her full powers when she turns out to be Wonder Woman and leaves her home to fight a war.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, and is written by Allan Heinberg and directed by Patty Jenkins.
