CAIRO – 3 June 2018: Four Ramadan soap operas utilized the flashback device in their plots. Some directors adopt this technique to attract the audience more, in addition to shedding light on the backdrop and back story of the series. The four series are as follows.

"Malika"

The story revolves around a girl named Aya who died in a wedding due to a terrorist bombing. Her niece, Malika, having such great resemblance to Aya, decides to live a double-life of both Malika and Aya, which results in her psychological suffering. The series stars Dina El-Sherbiny, Ramez Amir, Mostafa Fahmy, Nada Bassiouny and others. “Malika” is written by Mohamed Soliman Abdel Malek and directed by Sherif Ismail. After airing and buying the copyrights of the previous Ramadan series “Grand Hotel” (renamed “Secret of the Nile”), Netflix decided to air its second Egyptian TV series, “Malika”. Dina El-Sherbiny previously confirmed that the series will be aired on Netflix soon.

“Ekhtefa” (Disappearance)

Nelly Karim teams up with Hisham Selim for “Ekhtefa’”, where a university professor (played by Karim) is living with her husband in Russia, when he suddenly disappears. Her search brings her to Egypt where she uncovers many surprises. Basma, Mohamed Mamdouh and Mohamed Alaa co-star in this suspense drama written and directed by Ahmed Medhat.

“Azmy and Ashgan”

Starring Hassan El-Raddad, Amy Samir Ghanem, Samir Ghanem, Nesrine Amin, Mohamed Tharwat and Malak Koura, this comedy soap opera is about a gang of two members, Azmi and Ashgan, who go through a series of situations while an officer is on their trail and tracking their every move.

“Mamno’ Al Eqterab aw El Tasweer” (Do Not Come Closer or Take Photographs)

The series revolve around a rising actress who reaches the top of stardom, gradually turning into one of society’s top celebrities. But being famous in a short period of time comes with a price she has to pay: she found herself accused of murdering someone. “Mamno’ Al Eqterab aw El Tasweer” stars Zeina, Nesrine Amin, Fathy Abdel Wahab and Mohamed Shahin. The series is written by Mohamed el Safty and directed by Zeyad el Weshahy.
