CAIRO – 27 April 2017: Three Egyptian men have been charged with stealing and trafficking Egyptian antiquities, Spanish newspaper 20 Minutos reported Tuesday. The crime occurred in 2014. The verdict was passed in Spain's capital, Valencia.

According to the Spanish newspaper, 36 artifacts including sculptures of humans and animals circa pre-Biblical Egypt were stolen. The stolen artifacts are collectively worth somewhere between €214-253,000.

The Spanish High Court reported the Egyptian ethnicity of the three culprits and highlighted their prolific track record in previous smuggling operations. In lieu of a one-year incarceration sentence, the Spanish High Court imposed bail of €500,000 for the three men collectively.
